Salvatore Sciacchitano
President of the Council, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
|
Mr. Salvatore Sciacchitano is the sixth President of the ICAO Council. He succeeded Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu on 1 January 2020.
Mr. Sciacchitano graduated in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Catania and began his career in aviation in 1980, joining the Italian Airworthiness Authority (RAI) where he held positions of increasing responsibility, serving as the organization’s Regulation Director in 1992, then as Technical Director and, in 1996, as Director General.
With the merger of the aviation branch of the Ministry of Transport and RAI and the subsequent establishment of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC), Mr. Sciacchitano assumed the position of Deputy Director General. In this position, he played an instrumental role in coordinating the core business divisions of the newly founded structure. He was also entrusted with multiple international mandates, chairing the Permanent Commission of EUROCONTROL, representing Italy in the Management Board of European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), holding the Vice-Presidency of the EUROCONTROL Provisional Council and coordinating the Italian delegation during ICAO Assemblies.
As a result of his extensive experience in aviation international affairs, Mr. Sciacchitano was appointed Executive Secretary of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) in 2010. In February 2019, he joined the Italian Delegation on the Council of ICAO, where he served until assuming his duties as President of the Council.

Dr. Ansa Jordaan is currently the Chief of the Aviation Medicine Section at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), responsible for aviation medical standards and the CAPSCA programme (preventing transmission of communicable disease by air). She graduated in 1989 as a medical doctor and have two post-graduate degrees (Aerospace Medicine and Occupational Health). In 1999 she established the Aviation Medicine department in the South African Civil Aviation Authority, after having worked in the South African Military Institute of Aviation Medicine. In 2003 she left the CAA and worked as an Independent Consultant in the aviation industry until 2007. She then joined South African Airways where she was the Medical Director until June 2011. After SAA she left the aviation industry to work at the Life Occupational Health Group, where she was the Project Director of Occupational Health for Transnet Freight Rail. In 2012 she returned to aviation and was was the Medical Director of Occupational Health at International SOS. She joined ICAO in October 2015 and has been in the position of Chief of the Aviation Medicine section since then.

TITLE: Current issues and ICAO proposed solutions on resuming air travel safely The COVID-19 pandemic’s first anniversary was on 11 March 2021. Initially most people thought that it would be a matter of weeks before we could all return to normal life. Unfortunately this was not the case. Instead of a sprint, the pandemic has morphed into an ultra-marathon, despite very quick advances in medical science and technology. The pandemic continues to have a devastating effect on all aspects of life. The aviation sector has been hit very hard resulting in severe consequences on employment and travel, bancrupting many stakeholder operations and plunging aviation in an existential crisis, despite aviation being crucial in the transport of essential services and products to fight the pandemic. In this presentation we provide a snapshot of the pro-active response of ICAO to the pandemic, including a discussion of current challenges in resuming normal air travel, proposed solutions to address these challenges and tools to resume international travel safely in a harmonized manner.

Vinoop Goel is the Asia-Pacific Regional Director of Airports & External Relations for the International Air Transport Association (IATA). He is based at their Asia-Pacific regional office in Singapore. Vinoop leads a team that is responsible for all IATA's activities in the Asia-Pacific region relating to Airports, Passenger Facilitation, Cargo and Security. In addition to this, Vinoop also heads the Member and External Relations department for the region that is responsible for IATA membership and government policy issues such as environment, taxation and aviation regulatory matters. Vinoop has a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT, Delhi in India. He has 3 decades of aviation industry experience including a 15-year stint in Japan and has been with IATA since 2005.
International Air Transport Association The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is the trade association for the world’s airlines, representing some 290 airlines or 82% of total air traffic. IATA supports many areas of aviation activity and help formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues.

TITLE: Outlook and Opportunities for Aviation Industry COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on airlines, airports and other stakeholders in the aviation industry. The IATA presentation will include information on the current state of traffic and the outlook for the industry. With more than 20 years of experience in trade and tourism, Mr. Muhammad Daud started his career as an Assistant Director at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, where he was involved in APEC, WTO and Malaysia-Japan FTA negotiations. Soon after, he was appointed as the Senior Private Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Special Officer to the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Currently, he is the Senior Director of Tourism Policy and International Affairs at the Ministry and Lead Shepherd of the APEC Tourism Working Group. With a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from McGill and Master’s degree in International Relations from Waseda University, Mr. Muhammad Daud has received several awards, including Ontario Scholar's Award, Graduate School Valedictorian and the UNWTO Ulysses Award for Innovation in Public Policy and Governance for The Malaysia Homestay Experience Programme. Throughout his career Mr. Muhammad Daud's portfolio included the Director of Tourism Industry Development, the Director of Culture and Tourism at the ASEAN-Korea Centre, and Chair of several international committees, including the ASEAN Tourism Professional Committee, COMCEC Standing Committee and ASEAN-KOREA Tourism Working Group.

TITLE: "Strengthening Resilience and Recovery: The Outlook for Travel and Tourism in Asia-Pacific" Among major industries, travel and tourism has been hit hardest by the worldwide coronavirus pandemic. Even as the rollout of vaccines and gradual easing of travel restrictions give cause for optimism, the outlook for recovery in the year ahead remains cautious. For Asia and the Pacific, which was the first and most severely impacted region with a decline of 83% in tourist arrivals in 2020 compared to the year before, recovery of international travel is expected to take some time and remains contingent on the evolution of travel demand as well as harmonisation and digitalisation of common protocols for cross-border travel and related risk management measures. Drawing from the work of the APEC Tourism Working Group, a regional platform for information sharing and cooperation among tourism administrators of 21 APEC economies, this presentation discusses some of the approaches being adopted across the region in order to facilitate future travel and accelerate recovery. As every crisis presents an opportunity to rethink growth strategies moving forward, this presentation also highlights the urgency of digitalisation and sustainable tourism practices to further the vision of a responsible and inclusive tourism model in the Asia-Pacific region that is more resilient to future shocks.

Mrs Cheung worked for the General Electric Company and a high tech startup in the Silicon Valley before joining the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) in 1992. With more than 28 years of experience in airport management, she has held a number of senior management positions in the AAHK. Mrs Cheung is currently a Director of Hong Kong – Zhuhai Airport Management Company Limited and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Hong Kong Airport Management Company Limited. Active in community service, she is a member of the Liaison Panel for Accreditation of Vocational and Professional Education and Training of Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, and a member of Board of Directors of Support! TITLE: Share, Combine and the New Product The late of 2019 throughout 2021 is undeniably most difficult time for the history of aviation, as most of the countries has been lockdown causing travelers stay home in order to control the outbreak. Airlines grounded their flights causing suffering for the industry. Airport have to reduce the operation in order to survive this crisis, but the least damage were harm operation on the cargo activities, as the movement of the commodities for everyday consumption is needed in daily live, import and export activities still active. The demand of the freighters is rising, as airline been dusted their freighter aircraft to serves the uprising demand, some even convert passenger aircraft to carries cargo. It is the weak-up call for the airport either remain conservative or working along side with the airline and be supportive. The airport network has to be developed in order to fill not just the belly but the whole, by using the road network and the strategic location to support the carriers. This is the point that paradigm shifted, e-commerce play crustal part during the lockdown, and nature of shipping cargo has been changed, the new product for cargo has emerged.

Setting a course to digitally empowered ancillary revenue recovery" The travel industry has been decimated by COVID-19 and airports have become white elephants for many months. When the big resumption happens, recovery is anything but guaranteed. There will be a new breed of travellers, concerned about very different things from the past. They will be more concerned about safety than shopping. Physical distancing and hygiene considerations may negatively impact food and beverage retail and other traditional airport service propositions. Clearly, the game will have changed, and not least because travellers will have become a lot more digitally empowered and savvy. TITLE: Future Flight Accelerating Aviation Innovation The Future Flight Challenge is a £300m programme in three phases that will assure the UK’s position in the third aviation revolution. Using new classes of electric/hydrogen and autonomous vehicles the challenge will transform how we connect people, deliver goods and provide services. It will speed up the acceptance of these innovative air vehicles into service safely and practically by encouraging different businesses to share their knowledge and resources to work together. The challenge is creating a new community with members from across the diverse aviation industry. Linking new entrants, established global players, academia and regulators they are encouraged to jointly develop new aviation system concepts and work with communities to secure early involvement with new technologies. The overall intent of the Future Flight Challenge is to secure first mover advantage for the UK in creating this breadth of new aviation system demonstration. It will also inspire and accelerate the next generation of sustainable aviation to position the UK as a world leader in aviation products and markets. Doing this will enable the UK to build, use and export new, greener ways of flying that will enable new modes of travel and new services.
